Turquoise Wave

I am busy creating paintings of ocean waves, continuing an interest in the subject of moving water. I am interested in the power of it, and the beauty, as well as the mystery. This is large, oil on canvas, 36" x 48".

Dragon

This is about 4" long, a nice little fire-breathing dragon.

Plastic Fork, Knife, & Spoon Book

This grew out of a class assignment. We were required to make something out of plastic cutlery, so I rewrote the nursery rhyme about the cow jumping over the moon and made a pop-up book

Spit

Another collage from magazine images, it is hard to see but after obscuring all existing words with paint, just one word remained, right above the central figure: Spit.

Maze

Another collaged magazine image, I superimposed the figures over the maze and painted some areas of the photographs to put them together. It reminds me of the chess game in Alice in Wonderland.

John's Fish

This is about 3" long, a crazy colorful iron-scrap fish, all made from one piece of metal.

Portrait of Jackie

This is a life-sized oil on linen, a portrait of the eldest of a family of five. I painted each child when they reached the age of seven. This sitting was on a beautiful stretch of beach in Florida. The boy and his mom and I searched for the perfect location, making our way around no trespassing signs and turtle nesting areas before finding the right spot.

Bird's Nest III

Watercolor, 12" x 12", another in a series of nests.

Pool

This is 4' x 6', oil on canvas. I wanted it to be big so that it would feel as if you were under water while viewing it.

Swimming

This is a large oil painting on canvas. I was interested in the unusual effect and patterns created by light bouncing around under water.

Catholic Collage

Made from cut paper from magazine pages, this collage is 12" x 16". Parts of it, like the table and turquoise vase in the foreground, are constructed of small pieces of colored paper, while other areas use intact images from other sources.

Snoopy and the Ghost

This is teensy, about 1/2" tall, such a surprising thing to find among the cast off iron blobs-- a perfect Snoopy chased by a perfect little ghost. I like the way Snoopy looks like he's in motion, with a few extra limbs.

Colorado Landscape

This is an oil painting on linen, 9" x 12" of an approaching summer storm in Colorado.

Three Trees

This is an 8" x 10" oil painting on panel done in the winter from the front seat of my car.

Debbie's Gift

In the dead of winter I spent some time in a very old cemetery, and I challenged myself to make something out of whatever I found there. Slate, moss, dried grass, and sticks--I put it all together and made this.

The Eel Who Swallowed a Fish

This is about 5" long, made of found cast-off iron and paint. The shape of the painted fish inside the eel was actually an area that was already raised up on the metal piece. I simply outlined it with paint.

Joan of Arc

This is a 2" high sculpture made of cast off iron blobs and a little paint. Fierce!

Waiter

This is a large oil on canvas, 4' x 5', of a waiter I saw taking a break on a cruise ship's lower deck.

Small Self-Portrait in Studio

This is a 20" x 24" oil on canvas, a self-portrait including one of the mirrors I used in painting it. Surrounding the frame of the mirror are bits of the studio; inside the mirror is reflected the windowsill and lamp and other studio stuff.

Sunbathers

This is a large oil on canvas, 4' x 6' of sunbathers on the lower deck of a cruise ship, seen from above. I loved how happy the older woman looked compared to the younger ones.

Seaside Cafe

This is an 8" x 10" oil sketch on panel of a cafe in Florida.

Oil on linen, this is another life-sized portrait study.

Girl in Striped Dress

This is oil on linen, 30" x 40".

Iron Dog

This is another little cast-off sculpture, about 1" tall. I didn't paint his eye--the coloration was part of the metal

Bunny and Carrot

This is another found-object sculpture made from left-over metal splattered on the ground from an iron pour. This one was a single piece left intact--I added paint to define the carrot and the white tail. It's about 3/4" tall.

This is a life-sized oil painting on linen, 48" x 60".

Cyrano

This is a 3" tall found object sculpture made from cast off pieces from an iron pour.

Lament

Another magazine over-painting collaged image. I combined two images, one of the reclining figure and the other of the group of onlookers. I painted over parts of both and preserved one word from the existing text.

Winter Trees

This is an 8" x 10" oil on panel painting of a field in winter near a place I used to live.

Chattahoochee River

This is a small oil sketch, 8" x 10" done on the banks of the Chattahoochee River on a summer afternoon.

Seattle

This is a small oil on panel, 8" x 10" that I painted looking down from a hotel window on a rainy night in Seattle.

Yellowstone Clouds

This is a large oil painting on canvas, 3' x 4' of a cloud formation in Yellowstone National Park. I liked the triangle of blue sky framed by the clouds.

Purple Bird's Nest

This is another watercolor from the bird's nest series. I liked the sticks and feathers and leaves and bits of stuff the bird used to make its' home.

Oranges

This is an oil painting on linen, 8" x 11". I was thinking about the complimentary colors of blue and orange, wanting to do something with such opposites.

Interior

This is a small oil painting on wood panel using as subjects the small figures I sculpted and placed in a dollhouse room.
